AUSTRALIA SCOOP AWARDS

Australia won a lot of awards at the recently held Asian football confederations awards at Kuala Lumpur. Australia’s first win of the night came in the Dream Asia award, the new award for 2010 is given in recognition of service to the AFC’s involvement in social development, named after the AFC’s social responsibility initiative. The award was granted to the Football Federation Australia for their work with the AFC’s Vision Asia initiative, which seeks to develop both football and living standards in member associations that are less privileged, the FFA has donated both money and expertise to this cause as they continued from their former efforts in the Oceania Football Confederation.

It was no surprise when Australia’s women’s team, the Matildas, after winning their first women’s Asian Cup earlier in the year after defeating DPR Korea 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in China. In addition to this their 2010 performance continued at the prestigious Peace Queen Cup where the Matildas finished in second place, ending the 2010 year with nine wins.
