IMPROVEMENTS

by isport

After impressing at the recent World Cup's, Australia's form has improved in recent weeks. The team has suffered the embarrassment of a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Brazil, who will be hosting the 2014 World Cup. Australia are expected to be at the World Cup as one of the first team from the oceanic regions. However, their recent defeat has raised a lot of questions about manager Holger Osieck.

Former Australian midfielder Jason Culina has said that Australia should seriously consider relieving Osieck of his duties and bringing back former manager Guus Hiddink.
The Dutchman enjoyed a lot of success with Australia back in 2006 when he got them into the World Cup finals. Since then, Australia have emerged as a major force in this region. Guus Hiddink has recently relieved himself of his duties as the Anzhi Makhachkala manager. This means that he is free to take over any club or national team he wants.

Culina says that it is essential that Australia make a change right now within the World Cup only a few months away. Australia do not have much more competitive matches. They only have friendly matches against Canada and France left in the month of October. This would give the new manager with little time to implement changes.

"It would be amazing if we could get him back ... Guus Hiddink just he walking into the dressing room would provide a massive psychological lift to everybody. It would be an absolutely brilliant move to sound him out. Everything about the man is extraordinary. He's our greatest Socceroos coach and is an inspiring figure. It's about how he deals with players, his character and his ability to motivate. It's no coincidence that under him we got to the knockout stages in Germany in 2006," said Culina.
