Postecoglou Reveals His Team Plan

Australia’s coach Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he has a very good idea of the players who are expected to be in his squad for the World Cup 2014. Australia will be travelling to the World Cup under the new management of Postecoglou after he was appointed only a few months back. Even after disappointment, the form of the national team has not improved dramatically in order to make them favourites to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. They have won just two out of the last five friendly matches and this includes a 4-3 defeat against Ecuador.

This was especially a hurting defeat for the national team since they were leading 3-0 at half-time only to be pegged back by the South American team in a stunning second-half performance. After the match, Postecoglou revealed that there are still opportunities for the fringe players to impress and get into the squad at the last moment.

Australia have two more friendly matches before the World Cup, but it is highly unlikely that Postecoglou will be trying out new players for the national team. These two friendly matches will be against South Africa and Croatia.
Australia are in a very tough group containing the likes of Spain and the Netherlands. They are rank outsiders to even think about qualification.

"I do (have a squad in mind), and I guess there's always things that are coming across on a weekly basis. There's always someone who'll score a goal who should be on the plane from every weekend's game of footy. From my perspective, and particularly after the Ecuador game, there's a real clear understanding from my behalf in terms of the direction we need to go. And then you're fitting in the pieces of the puzzle to do that,” said the manager.
