Aaron Mooy signs for Huddersfield Town

The Australia international has inked a three-year deal with the Terriers after he impressed on his season-long loan with the club last term.

The 26-year-old midfielder managed 51 appearances for David Wagner’s side last season and he was a key figure in clinching their promotion to the top-flight for the first time since 1972. Mooy had initially attracted interest from fellow promoted club Brighton & Hove Albion, but the player’s valuation put them off from making an offer.

It was therein a straight path for Huddersfield, who have paid an initial £8m in order to lure him back to the Kirklees Stadium. Manager David Wagner has also inked a two-year contract with the Terriers, and he had some fond words to say about Mooy following his decision to rejoin the club on a permanent basis.

“Everybody who has watched our team in our promotion season knows how huge it is to have Aaron back at the Club as we enter the Premier League for the first time. I’m sure our fans will be very happy to see him back! ‘As I said many times last season, Aaron was right at the heart of our team. When he played well, we usually played well – and won! His performances for us understandably brought a lot of interest in him this summer, so it is a big statement that Aaron wants to return to us,” he told the club’s official website.

Mooy bagged four goals and 10 assists during his maiden campaign in English football, but they may not have been possible had Manchester City not signed him from sister club Melbourne City last summer. Mooy was recruited on a free transfer from the A-League side, and the Citizens have made a decent profit from the midfielder without him having made an appearance for the club. The Australian will now get the chance to prove his skills against his former employers with their first meeting scheduled on November 25th.

Ange Postecoglou talks about Australia´s recent endeavors

Overall, it was not a memorable tournament for the Australian national side but there actually was a positive thing to take away for AngePostecoglou and his team.

On June 25 of 2017, Chile and Australia faced off for their FIFA Confederations Cup in a match that resulted in a 1-1 draw. Despite not being able to clinch a victory, this match was impressive for Australia as they managed to keep up with an outstanding performance from the Chilean players and actually took the lead in the 1st half as Australia´s James Troisi scored the opening goal of the match.

Chile would later go on to tie the match but nonetheless it was an impressive match for both national sides.

Following Australia´s exit from the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, AngePostecoglou had a few things to say concerning his views on the Australian team as well as their future.

¨What everyone sees and what I see are extreme parallels. There’s a little bit of a pack mentality and they say ‘how come we all see this when he sees something different´. I’ve tried to regenerate the squad, evolve the way we play, get us to a point where we are not afraid to take a backwards step. Maybe I’m wrong and everyone else is right, or maybe I’m right and people just can’t see it¨ Australia´s AngePostecoglou said.

The 51 year old tactician also added on saying that national sides such as Germany and Chile have players that are consistently performing in some of the best leagues in the world which significantly increases the quality of the national team but that Australia does not enjoy those same privileges but they still managed to stand their ground in some way or another.
