Graham Potter heaps praise on Aaron Mooy after Arsenal win

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has heaped praise on Aaron Mooy following his standout display against Arsenal in the Premier League. The Australia international joined the Seagulls on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Town during the summer but he made a slow beginning to his career as he struggled for regular gametime.

However, his situation has improved as the season has progressed and against the Gunners, he was a dominant force at the heart of the midfield. The Socceroos star completed four take-ons and two tackles for the Seagulls and in addition to this, he contributed the key assist for Neal Maupay, who bagged the winning strike in a 2-1 triumph.

Speaking after the game, Potter appreciated Mooy’s efforts on a defensive and offensive scale and he was impressed with the midfielder’s response after the recent sending off at Aston Villa, he told: “He was really good both defensively and offensively, and he really influenced the game. He plays for the team and is unselfish, he’s a great lad. He had a bit of a setback with his sending off against Aston Villa, but he’s reacted in a fantastic way. It’s nice to see him enjoying his football because when he does that, you can see his quality.”

Brighton have propelled to the 13th spot in the league after the victory over the Gunners on the road. Next up, they have a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers and they won’t have an easy task with the west Midlands outfit in top form. Wolves were languishing around the drop zone during the first international break and they have since built up a winning run and are placed fifth on the table ahead of the meeting between the sides. Brighton don’t face any of last season’s top six until Boxing Day where they have a trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
