HIDDINK RULES OUT RETURN

by isport

Former Chelsea and Dutch national team manager Guus Hiddink has said that he will not be returning to manage Australia for a second spell after it has been heavily rumoured that the Australian FA are looking at him as a possibility.

The Dutchman recently resigned from his role at Anzhi Makhachkala. He has previously stated that he would like to retire from his managerial career and focus on a desk role like that of a sporting director. He has once again confirmed the same by saying that he is not looking for any new jobs right now.

Hiddink is one of the well-respected coaches across the world. He has done extremely well at both club and international level. At international level, he has been excellent for Australia in his first spell. He got them to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. He has also won the FA Cup and the league title with Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively. When asked about the possibility of taking over Australia again, Hiddink has confirmed that there has been contact between him and the Australian FA, but he has rejected the opportunity to manage them.

"There has been contact between Australia and me. But I have told them that the World Cup is not an option for me. Not with Australia - or with anyone else. I have taken a step back for the moment and want to enjoy that until next summer. I've been so busy and travelled so much with teams and countries, I need a breather. I don't want any obligations now, so I can weigh up options for the new season," said the 66-year-old.

Australia recently sacked their coach after a run of poor results. They have qualified for the World Cup 2014. There has also been talk of Sir Alex Ferguson being persuaded from retirement.
