Postecoglou Thinks Players Should Be Proud

The manager of the Australian national football team, Ange Postecoglou, reckons that his players should return home with their heads held high after performing better than the expectations in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Although the Socceroos have been knocked out of the tournament but, they have impressed a lot of people with their temperament. They had some great teams in their group and they were expected to be easily torn apart by those teams, but, it wasn’t to be. The Aussies actually ended up pushing those teams to limits. The match against Spain was a bit one sided, you can say that. But, in the other two games, Australia did make the opposition lose some sweat, that’s for sure.

Postecoglou is very proud of his boys’ effort and rightly so. Even their own fans were not backing the Aussies to play this well in the tournament, but, the young unit under the guidance of a wily manager gave the fans some really joyous moments.

Talking to the reporters after the match against Spain which Australia lost by 0-3, Postecoglou said, “One thing that we have proved surely is that we’re on the right track. We played with aggression and self confidence and gave a tough fight to the teams like Chile and Holland and that’s a great achievement for us considering the position in which we were in a few months before the tournament.”

“Now, our target from here on should be to get into the top 15 in the world rankings. We should look to lessen the gap between us and the top nations.”

“I am glad to know that a number of people back home are praising the boys. That’s what the boys need. The fans should keep supporting and praising them.”
