UCL: POSTECOGLOU SUFFERS DEFEAT ON DEBUT
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou suffereddefeat on his UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage debut following the 3-0 loss at home toholders Real Madrid. The former Australia national team boss managed Celtic in the Champions League group stage for the first time, but he was unable to prevent the team from suffering a big defeat after Real Madrid scored three second half goals.
Celtic were on a seven-game run of successive victories before they took on Real Madrid at Celtic Park in Glasgow on Tuesday night. They had won six league games and one League Cup game this season before the visit of Real Madrid who are the reigning La Liga champions and UCL champions.
Real Madrid suffered a huge setback when Karim Benzema was forced off with an injury in the first half. He was replaced by Belgian international Eden Hazard. Without the injured Benzema, Real Madridwere able to get their Champions League defence to a winning start with the big away victory over Celtic.
After a goalless first half, Brazil international Vinicius Junior scored the first goal of the game on 56 minutes before the second goal was scored by Luka Modricfour minutes later. Hazard was the assist provider for the Modricgoal before he sealed the win for Real Madrid with twenty minutes left on the clock.
